Back in January we were chosen to create our exotic border planting design in the Countryside Borders category at the Belvoir Flower and Garden Show. The show takes place by a one of the lakes in the ‘Capability’ Brown parkland beneath Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire.
The border aimed to demonstrate how with a changing climate some more exotic plants have become hardy in the UK climate. These plants were used as the backbone of the scheme.
Once we had made the backbone of hardy plants with exotic foliage then we focused on the smaller perennials to add colour and foliage contrast. Some of these are hardy in the UK while others are more tender so need protection in winter.
It was great to be able to see how much the visitors to the show enjoyed the border and how there eyes were opened when we told them that the majority of the plants were hardy making this a achievable low maintence effect.
We were exited to hear at the end of the show that the border had received the Peoples Choice Award. Great result for all our hard work!
